In 1969, I was just another wild child, ‘riting my way through the Bronx. My two tags, Bama I / AMRL got around.
By 1970 I was sneaking’ into train yards with a crew, and hopefully not getting caught.
In 1972 I joined United Graffiti Artists with fellow ‘riters like Coco 155, Flint 707, Phase II, Mico, Snake I, Lee 163. In a short time we went from scaling walls and running from transit cops, to showcasing our work in a Soho gallery with all the major NYC press covering it all.
At the Razor Gallery show, 1973.
Been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pen. That includes my own comic strips. In the time and space where I grew up, graff was the next natural step.
